Open Garden and Sculpture Exhibition Preparations

Apart from the dreaded Covid which has laid us both low we are well on track with preparations for our big open garden and sculpture exhibition weekend. The garden is beginning to green up nicely in spite of the lack of rain - at least the weeds aren’t growing too quickly!

We are excited to be showcasing more paintings and sculptures during the weekend.

Julie Cuthbert is well known to many of our visitors and she has another installation in the seasonal pond - which we hope will remain dry for May! Julie is joined by sculptors David Trenow and Payne Gunfield and their works can be found dotted throughout the garden.

We are delighted that Sarah Milne is exhibiting some of her paintings in our tea barn. Sarah is a local artist inspired by the landscapes she passes through.

Payne and I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday21/Sunday22 May. We are open from 10am - 5pm both days with tea and cake served in the barn - so please come even if it is raining!

What else do you do when in lockdown but redesign your garden?

We had already decided to change the design of our Reflection Garden - the sleepers were rotting around the raised beds, the reflection pool had caused us problems over the previous two years and to be honest I no longer liked the design and impact of the decking.

The Solution

Out with the decking - now destined as kindling for the winter and in with a wide shallow set of steps linking the top garden with the bottom.

Out with the pool - going to have to think of a new name for this area of the garden now - and in with a new water feature - a 55inch wide digger bucket and a beautiful trough made by Payne.

Out with the rotting sleepers and in with 10mm thick solid steel plates as the new retaining walls - think they should definitely see us off this planet!

We still have to extend the seating around the new fire pit - another great auction find, finish the steps, put in the finished surface and create a screen sculpture for the entrance. Then I get to play with the plants and borders.

Exhibition Preparations

Can't quite believe we are already half way through August. We are both very busy - Payne in his workshop and me in the garden - getting ready for our September sculpture exhibition. It seemed a very long way off but is now frighteningly close. Saturday 2nd Sunday 3rd September 10:30am - 5pm. Entry Adults £5 Children Free admission.

The exhibition contains works by 3 artists - Julie Cuthbert, Payne Gunfield and David Trenow. Julie has been artist in residence on the farm for the past year and she will be launching her book - Moverons  'An Artist's Sketchbook' - in conjunction with the exhibition.

The works will be displayed in the garden, and in adjoining woodland. Come and explore this beautiful space and finish off with a cup of tea and homemade cake served in our barn.

Gearing up for 2017!

Payne is busy in the workshop with new ideas for the sculpture exhibition next year – makesure you put the dates in your diary – 2nd and 3rd September.

I’m never quite sure if I like this time of year or not. I feel loss at the summer slipping away but look forward to cosy nights in front of the fire making plans for next year in the garden. Next job on the list is to clear out the poly tunnel and get it all cosied up ready to overwinter the succulents and tender plants in pots that have revelled in the warm summer.

A New Year, a new website!

Moverons website goes live. Excitement at Moverons as we launch our updated website. We hope you enjoy the experience. We know that life can sometimes be a little chaotic but here at Moverons we hope that you will find a tranquil space to draw breath.

As visitors we hope that you will enjoy the peace but through this journal we would like to share with you some of the frantic paddling going on under the surface as well as the calmer moments!

Another passion of ours is our environmental work on the farm surrounding the garden and we’d like to share that with you through this page as well.

Take a look around
